Lucky Cheng’s is the Drag Queen Capital of the Universe Now in Times Square
New York, NY, 2013: Lucky Cheng’s, the infamous, trend-setting drag cabaret restaurant, has recently relocated to Times Square and is thrilled to announce the acquisition of Executive Chef Eric Meas, to whom the Lucky Cheng’s girls now refer as the reigning diva!
Located in the heart of the Theatre District, this New York institution was the first restaurant in the world to feature drag-queen servers, bartenders, and performers. When Prince Albert of Monaco dined “a-la-drag” in 1994, Lucky Cheng’s was catapulted into the international limelight. This drag-queen dinner theatre remains a staple for gossip columnists, as it continues to attract celebrities such as Leonardo DiCaprio, the Olsen sisters, Ethan Hawke, Lady Gaga, and many others.
Chef Meas, who began cooking at his mother’s side at age 4 in Cambodia, discovered his culinary identity while preparing signature dishes on the streets for a living. Meas and his mother, refugees from the Khmer Rouge regime, moved to the U.S. in 1981. By age 16, Meas’ passion for creating unique recipes landed him a gig as sous chef of the trendy Hotel Royalton Palace & Restaurant in Manhattan. Advancing his culinary studies under such top chefs such as Daniel Boulud, Meas became a star in his own right in the arena of Asian Fusion cuisine.
Today, the flavors of Meas’ native cuisine are met with the French, Japanese, and other techniques he mastered over the years. Light, and beautifully presented, with a cacophony of layered flavors, the eye and the palate are tantalized with Meas’ culinary masterpieces. Meas recommends Crispy Whole-fish Red Snapper with tamarind, raisin, tomato, and sweet basil, or Slow-Braised Short Ribs in a honey, ginger, star anise, mushroom, soy, Chinese rice wine, and clove sauce. The dishes are dramatic enough to compete with the drag queens performing on the stage!
“Les Girls” of the Lucky Cheng’s family have fabulous new sparkly costumes and headpieces, for their premium Times Square location! They perform cabaret, lip sync, comedy, and gravity-defying aerial acts that will dazzle and tantalize even the most seasoned audience. These professional drag queens perform in a spectacular setting of 20-foot ceilings, with professional lighting to complement the shows.
While you’re dining or watching the show, enjoy one of the club’s signature cocktails with infused vodkas paired with house-made syrups. If you dare, order a flaming orgy or volcano bowl, brimming with a specialty drink. Lucky Cheng’s also offers Bites and Pieces Catering for themed parties, entertainment, office luncheons, film and TV shoots, corporate events, weddings and more. Whether you’re coming out or merely going out, Lucky Cheng’s will surpass your wildest expectations! We are also excited to introduce our new nightclub, catering and events division, Red Lacquer.
